Raccoon Trapping: How To Trap a Raccoon - You love your home and want it to be a place that you can enjoy to its fullest extent. To these ends you want it to look and feel just perfect so you can enjoy peace while you are at home. You want nothing to ruin the beauty and grandeur of your home. It is your castle and that is the way you want it to stay.

Unfortunately you may not be the only one who wants to use your home as its castle. Raccoons are quite persistent animals and you will find that if they have made a stop at your home and have found a safe place to lay or a good meal to eat, they will keep returning, even if the conditions are not as ripe each time.

These creatures can be relentless. They want what they want, and they will often time stop at nothing to get what they are looking for. That means if they have found food in the garbage can before but now the lid is on the can more securely they may keep working on that can until they get it open. If they have gotten into your home through a pet door before they will return again and again and keep trying to they gain entry on another occasion.

In no time at all you can find that your beautiful home is the newest stop on the raccoon parade of homes. This simply won’t do, and even though you have taken the steps to make your home more secure, you may find that they simply won’t go away.

You may find that your only solution to getting rid of that pesky raccoon is to trap it and have it taken away by animal control for good. The reality is that once they have found a place where they have found once they will keep returning to that same place hoping to find more. This means your garbage cans, garden and even your pets may not be safe. Trapping may be your only recourse.

While this may be a good suggestion you may also be saying to yourself that you don’t have the slightest idea how to set up a raccoon trap. Really, it is not as hard as you may think.

There are two different kinds of traps out there, the 1-door and the 2-door. The 1-door is the favorite of professionals that trap animals like raccoons for a living. They allow larger animals to be trapped and they protect the bait better making it easier to draw the animals into the cage to catch them.

There are advantages to the 2-door though. First off, they are found to be much more likely to capture a Boca Raton raccoon than the 1-door system. The way that the doors are set up also are much more calming to animals that normally are quite cautious. Some animals are very hard to trap because they instinctually are too timid to try something new. The setup of this cage makes it a much more calming condition to draw them in.

Once you have decided on a cage type, the next step is to find the proper placement. This is one of those footprints in the snow moments, where you choose placement of your trap based upon the most common area that your raccoon likes to return to. This could mean it will be by your garbage cans, near the shed, by the fence, near the dog bowl or in the attic. Wherever you find that the raccoon likes to go there should be a trap. What this means is that if you have more than one area that is frequented then you need more than one trap.

Your next choice is to select your bait. Raccoons like things that are sweet, so fruit, candy, marshmallows and honey are just a few of the things you can use to lure the beast in. make sure that there is a sufficient amount to capture the creatures attention. You must understand that the raccoon is not coming into the cage if there is not bait he or she wants, so if you have tried something for a time and it has not worked then it is time to switch.

You should also be aware that you must remove all other sources of food that the raccoon may go for. For example, if the dogs bowl is outside then the raccoon will go for that. You can’t give alternative sources of food.

Once you have set your trap make sure you check it frequently. Most cages are quite sturdy, but a motivated raccoon may find a means of escape. By checking as frequently as possible you give less time for him to pull a Houdini on you. Happy hunting!
