Rat Repellent
Most people who have rat infestations quickly look for the best solutions in order to get rid of the problem. There are a lot of rat repellants that are available on the market that promise almost instant results but often tend to under deliver, or not deliver at all. That said, there are mainly two types of rat repellents on the market; ultrasonic and botanical repellents.

Ultrasonic Repellents
About Ultrasonic Repellents Ultrasonic Repellents are electronic devices that are designed to emit high frequency sounds that tend to cause rats and other pesky rodents to stay away. There is often a great debate as to whether or not these devices actually work.

How Do These Devices Work?
The history of using sound to repel certain animals was adopted from the Chinese who began using these techniques thousands of years ago. The devices they had then were manually operated and were used to chase away bugs and other pests. Ultrasonic sound refers to any frequency that is higher than 20,000Hz. This kind of frequency is too high for our ears to pick up but is said to cause convulsions, confusion and even death in pests such as rats. Because of such noise, the rats will then move to areas that are more conducive and friendly.

Are They Effective On Rats Only?
Rats are amongst the pests that the ultrasonic devices are effective on. Some ultrasonic devices are designed to focus more on smaller animals such as cockroaches, ants and termites while others are designed to work on larger rodents such as squirrels, rats and mice. It is advised that you always check the manufacturer’s warning to be sure what kind of animals the device was designed for.

Cost of Ultrasonic Devices
The brand and the number of pests it can control are the biggest determinants in the pricing of ultrasonic devices. The prices may range from $10-$100. The more rodents it can repel, the higher the cost. Also, well known expensive brands tend to price more than relatively unknown brands. There are plugin and corded types of repellants. The plugin ones are as cheap as $10and most of them come in packs of about 4. Because of the fact that the sound may not be able to travel through the walls, you will need several of these type of ultrasonic devices to be placed in different parts of the house. The multipack units retail at around $30. Corded ultrasonic devices tend to cost more because they have a wider ranger. This means that you may not need more than a few of them for your whole house. Customers’ reviews show that they prefer the corded device as opposed to the plugin.

Advantages of Ultrasonic Devices
1. It is generally safe as compared to other types of repellants that involve toxic chemicals that can easily cause harm to humans as well as household pets.
2. It is inexpensive and consumes very little electricity. This helps you save on utility bills while still taking care of your rat infestation.
3. They are good for working on not only rats, but other pest infestations you may not know about.

Disadvantages of Ultrasonic Devices
1. Studies are recently beginning to prove that these ultrasonic devices may not be as effective as they claim for Boca Raton rats. Other tests show that they work on some rodents, but not all.
2. Some complaints came through that these devices only work to reduce the number of rodents but do not eradicate them completely.
3. It has a short range as they are limited to mostly one room and not a whole house so as a consumer you may be forced to buy a number of them.
Popular brands of ultrasonic devices are ET Pest Control, T3-R Triple High Impact Repeller, Victor M792 Heavy-Duty Sonic Pestchaser and Victor M754 Mini Pestchaser.

Botanical Rodent Repellent
Natural options for repelling rants include the use of Botanical Rodent Repellent which is the use of plant based ingredients to create a mixture with a powerful smell that is meant to repel the rats. The smell of these kinds of products are strong enough to keep the rodents at bay but are considered safe enough to be used in the homes of humans. Other natural repellents include peppermint, cat urine and cat litter. These are natural and can easily be found in your area. It should be noted that for the most part, a lot of the store bought rat repellents tend to do a very poor job of actually getting rid of the rats. You are better of sticking to preventive measures when it comes to dealing with a rat infestation. Basics such as trap setting, sealing holes, covering food and getting rid of junk should be enough to deal with your rat infestation at home.
